Eligibility

Indian nationals with the prescribed ITI / NTC / NAC qualification in the respective trade. Only full-time regular courses are considered.

Essential qualification

Class X (Matriculation) PLUS National Trade Certificate (NTC / ITI) PLUS National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the respective trade, with not less than 60% marks for Gen/OBC and 55% marks for SC/ST in both NTC/ITI and NAC. Certificates must be issued on or before 01 October 2026.

Desirable: Knowledge of the regional language for Tamil Nadu, Telangana / Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka based units; and Hindi for all other units.

How the minimum-marks rule works

The minimum percentage applies separately to NTC / ITI and NAC, not as an average:

$$P_{\text{NTC/ITI}} \geq P_{\min} \;\;\text{AND}\;\; P_{\text{NAC}} \geq P_{\min},\qquad P_{\min}=\begin{cases}60\% & \text{Gen / OBC}\\ 55\% & \text{SC / ST}\end{cases}$$
  • Both certificates must be issued on or before 01 October 2026.
  • Only full-time regular courses are considered.
  • NAC must be issued by the concerned authority.
  • Ex-servicemen with trade equivalence from Army / Air Force / Naval institute are exempt from the minimum-marks requirement.
  • SC/ST/PwBD candidates applying against unreserved posts are considered under general standard — no relaxation in minimum marks.

Age limit & relaxations

Upper age limit: 27 years as on 01-10-2026 for General & EWS candidates. The maximum age, after all relaxations, shall not exceed 56 years.

$$\text{Age}_{\text{final}} = \min\!\left(27 + \sum R_i,\; 56\right)$$

Computer Based Examination (CBE)

Stage I of the selection process — a trade-specific computer-based test of 100 marks, held on the same day for all units.

Exam highlights

  • Mode: Computer Based Examination (CBE), single day for all units.
  • Language: Trilingual — Hindi, English, or a third language (Kannada, Telugu, Tamil).
  • Trade-specific: Questions test knowledge & proficiency in the respective trade.
  • Total marks: 100. Final merit is based on the CBE score.
  • Test centres: Up to 5 choices; BHEL reserves the right to add or cancel any city/centre.

Qualifying marks in CBE

Candidates scoring below the cut-off are disqualified from further selection.

$$Q = \begin{cases} 40\% & \text{UR / EWS} \\ 30\% & \text{OBC (NCL) / SC / ST} \\ 30\% & \text{PwBD / Ex-SM (UR/EWS) – relaxed} \\ 22.5\% & \text{PwBD / Ex-SM (OBC/SC/ST) – relaxed} \end{cases}$$

Shortlisting ratio calculator

For shortlisting to the Skill Test, candidates are called in 1:3 ratio. For a single vacancy in a trade/category, a maximum of 5 candidates are called.

$$N_{\text{shortlist}} = \begin{cases} \min(3V,\;5) & \text{if } V = 1 \\ 3V & \text{if } V \geq 2 \end{cases}$$

Qualifying marks by category

Shortlisting logic

All UR candidates along with reserved-category candidates (EWS, OBC, SC, ST) of that trade in the respective unit who do not avail any relaxation are first grouped together and arranged in descending order of CBE marks. Skill Test calls go out in 1:3 ratio under UR. Remaining EWS/OBC/SC/ST candidates not shortlisted under UR are then regrouped with their own categories for further shortlisting in 1:3 ratio.

Selection process

Two-stage selection — Computer Based Examination followed by Document Verification & Skill Test (qualifying). Final merit is based on CBE score.
