The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is one of the six main organs of the United Nations and is the main deliberative body of the UN.
- Composition: The UNGA is comprised of all 193 member states of the United Nations.
- Function: The UNGA serves as a forum for member states to discuss and coordinate on a wide range of international issues, including peace and security, development, human rights, and international law.
- Powers: The UNGA has the power to make recommendations on any issue within the scope of the UN Charter and to make proposals to promote international cooperation in political, economic, social, and humanitarian fields.
- Voting: Each UN member state has one vote in the UNGA and decisions on most issues are taken by a two-thirds majority.
- Session: The UNGA holds an annual regular session from September to December and additional special sessions as required.
- Significance: The UNGA provides a platform for member states to express their views and to negotiate and adopt legally binding treaties and agreements on a wide range of international issues.
