  • SAMARTH Scheme: The SAMARTH Scheme, also known as the Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector, is an initiative launched by the Indian government’s Ministry of Textiles. The scheme aims to provide skill development training to workers in the textile sector to enhance their productivity and employability.
  • Just Energy Transition Partnership: It is the initiative of G7 countries to push the developing countries to phase out the use of coal and switch to renewable sources of energy for power production. The short form of the initiative is JEPT. 
  • Appointment of Commissioners of Election Commission:  The SC directed the government that the appointment to the post of the commissioner of Election Commission of India shall be made based on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Prime Minister of India,  LOP in the Lok Sabha and the CJI.
  • SATAT Scheme: SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) is a scheme launched by the Indian government in 2018 to promote the production and use of compressed biogas (CBG) as a sustainable alternative fuel for transportation. Under the SATAT scheme, the government aims to set up 5,000 CBG plants across the country by 2023 with a total production capacity of 15 million tonnes per annum. The scheme encourages private entrepreneurs and companies to invest in CBG production and distribution by offering various incentives and subsidies.The use of CBG as a transportation fuel can significantly reduce India’s dependence on imported crude oil and promote sustainable development. It is also expected to create job opportunities in rural areas and improve waste management practices by utilizing agricultural, municipal, and industrial waste as feedstock for CBG production.
  • Biogas: Biogas is a renewable energy source that is produced by the breakdown of organic matter such as food waste, agricultural waste, animal manure, and sewage in the absence of oxygen through a process called anaerobic digestion. The resulting gas is primarily composed of methane and carbon dioxide with trace amounts of other gases.
  • Keoladeo National Park: As per the Wetland Ex-Situ Conservation Establishment (WESCE), a Wetland Zoo will be formed in the national Park. It is located in Rajasthan.
  • Project Cheetah: India and South Africa signed an agreement on Project Cheetah in January 2023. According to the agreement, India will get 12 Cheetahs from South Africa. These cheetahs will be dropped at the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
  • TARKASHA Exercise: India and USA military recently conducted the TARKASHA exercise. It was held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Special Operation Forces of the US and the National Security Guard of India participated in the exercise. Usually, military exercises focus on enhancing the skills and weapon usage of the soldiers.
  • HWASONG-15: The HWASONG-15 is the ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) of North Korea. It was successfully launched recently and has the ability to reach mainland of USA.
  • NISAR Satellite: NISAR is an earth-observing satellite planned to be launched in 2024. It stands for NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar. SAR creates two-dimensional and three-dimensional reconstructions of landscapes. NISAR is jointly developed by NASA and ISRO.
  • Food Price Index: The index is released by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The Food Price Index tells the “monthly” price changes in world food prices.
  • VIHANGAM: Aviation Ministry permitted the CMPDI (Central Mine Planning and Design Institute) to use drone technology in the coal fields of India. The drone system and its portal have been named VIHANGAM. The drone will spray water in the coalfield area to suppress the coal dust.
  • Black Sea Grain Deal: The deal was signed between Ukraine and Russia to allow the frain exports from Ukraine through black sea.
  • Ban the Sale of Gas and Diesel Cars: The European Union recently planned to ban the sale of gas and diesel cars. The ban will come into effect in 2035. The decision was made to increase the use of Electric Vehicles. The main objective is to achieve zero emissions.
  • Shinku La Tunnel: The Shinku La or Shingo La is a mountain pass located on the border between HP and Ladakh.
  • Vibrant Villages Programme: The Vibrant Villages Programme focuses on developing the rural areas in the northern border states and union territories.
  • World Bank: David Robert Malpass, serving as the President of the World Bank since 2019, recently announced that he is resigning. He has not completed his term yet. The term of the president of the world bank is five years.
  • Waste to Hydrogen Plant: The Government of India is to set up the first waste-to-hydrogen plant  in Pune. The plant will be built by a private company Green Billion Limited.
  • GST Council: The 49th meeting of the GST council was recently chaired by the Finance Minister.
  • First Nuclear Plant of Haryana: A new nuclear plant is to be built in Gorakhpur, Haryana. The plant will generate 2800 MW of electricity.
  • Competitive Examination Ordinance: The ordinance was issued by Uttarakhand government to take strict measures to curb the corrupt practices in competitive examinations.
  • Geo-heritage Sites and Geo-relics Bill: It has the provisions concerning the declaration, preservation, protection and maintenance of geo-heritage sites, released recently by Ministry of Mines.
  • Article 93:  This article of Indian Constitution mandates the election of the Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha.
  • Saur Revolution: launched by the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) in 1978 to overthrow Afghan president Mohammed Daoud Khan.
  • ChatGPT is a chat bot capable of generating human-like text using stored data with help of internet.
  • Geo-heritage Sites: Natural sites or landscapes that have geological, ecological, or cultural value. Examples are Siwalik Fossil Park, Himachal Pradesh, Lonar Lake, Maharashtra.
  • Vacant Post of Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha: Article 93 of the Constitution of India establishes the post of the Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha.
  • Cooling Effect of Aerosol on Earth: Aerosols can have a direct and indirect cooling effect on the Earth’s surface. The direct cooling effect occurs when aerosols reflect sunlight back into space, which can reduce the amount of solar radiation that reaches the Earth’s surface. This can cause a decrease in temperature and a cooling effect.
  • Nominated Members: The Supreme Court has said that the nominated members of the Delhi Municipal Corporation cannot vote in the election of Delhi’s Mayor.
  • Article 124 of Indian Constitution: Judge of the Supreme Court shall be appointed by the President by warrant under his hand and seal after consultation with such of the Judges of the Supreme Court and of the High Courts in the States.
  • J&K Delimitation: The SC dismissed a plea challenging the delimitation exercise to redraw Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory of J&K.
  • Custodian Death: According to the report of Ministry of Home Affairs, the highest number of the custodian deaths have been reported from Gujarat.
  • “Global Sea-Level Rise and Implications” report: Issued by World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the causes of sea level rise are  thermal expansion of Water, Melting of Glacier, Loss of Ice sheet.
  • Seal Level Rise: The United Nations Security Council recently warned about the high risks of sea level rise, According to the council, the sea level rise is already causing conflicts.
